Why are my WordPress images looking blurry or distorted?

Home » Common WordPress Questions » Why are my WordPress images looking blurry or distorted?

Blurry images on a WordPress site are usually caused by a mismatch between the uploaded image size and the dimensions defined by your theme. When WordPress displays a small image in a large space, it stretches the pixels, causing “pixelation.” Conversely, if your theme’s CSS is forcing a massive image into a tiny box without proper scaling, the details can become muddied.

Another culprit is aggressive image compression. While plugins like Smush or ShortPixel are great for speed, setting them to “Ultra” or “Lossy” settings can degrade the visual quality. To fix this, ensure you are uploading images at a resolution at least as large as they will appear on screen (usually 1920px wide for headers). We also recommend using the WebP format, which provides high-quality visuals at a fraction of the file size of a traditional JPEG or PNG.
